Check your chip or graphics card and memory below. You can also choose the details of a different computer.
Where to find these details
Click the Apple menu at the top left of the screen, then About This Mac. The window names the chip and the memory. Pick both here.
This list covers Macs with Apple silicon. If you cannot find a matching chip, choose "I don't know."
Where to find these details
Right-click Start, open Task Manager, and choose Performance. Check each GPU entry: a separate graphics card may appear as GPU 1. Select the matching card below and use the total shown under Dedicated GPU memory.
If you only have built-in graphics, choose No graphics card. For system memory, select Memory in the same list, or check Installed RAM under Settings → System → About.
For NVIDIA, nvidia-smi shows the card and its graphics memory. Use free -g to check system memory. For AMD, lspci | grep VGA can help identify the card; confirm its graphics memory in the manufacturer's specifications.

This plays a written example at the speed shown below. No model runs in your browser. The shading follows a reader at 4.5 words a second; the loading pauses are shortened.
Compare all models
Models are ordered by the task ratings used in this catalog. “Earlier test” speeds come from runs on the named chip or card. Other speeds are calculated from hardware specifications. Your setup may be faster or slower.

- Memory: the total includes the download, space for the conversation, and the software running the model. The Mac estimate leaves a third of memory free up to 36 GB, or a quarter above that. Other open programs can leave less room.
- Speed: “Earlier test” means a run on the named chip or card, which may have used a different model version or settings. “Estimated” uses memory bandwidth and model size. Loading a model or reading a long prompt adds time before the first word.
- Model choice: task ratings help choose among models that fit and clear a minimum speed. They are editorial choices, not benchmark scores. Try a familiar task to see whether you like the answers.
- Setup: the commands set aside 8,192 tokens for chat, 16,384 for coding, or 32,768 for documents. Longer conversations need more memory. Check the linked model page for software requirements before downloading.
